Is nudity really not a big deal in other countries?
People on the internet are always talking about how they have seen things in Europe like people changing on the beach and it's not considered offensive. And women can appear topless on a magazine cover. And in Greece if you're staying with someone it wouldn't be considered weird to see them naked. And in Scandinavian countries, people attend the sauna nude, and socialize in the nude. And in South America there may actually be full nudity at some Carnival celebrations?
Is this kind of thing really true? I've been to England and I didn't see things like this, not even anything on a magazine. Of course I never went to beaches there or anything.
But why do I hear of American families, who normally don't approve of nudity, going to see Carnival in Brazil and stuff? Aren't they concerned about this? Do they know...?
The Europeans are far more relaxed about it than Americans. I remember specifically when we were lying there topless on the beach at Barcelona that the guys didn't give us more than a glance. Unlike Americans they didn't stand there and gawk at you. Also if they wanted to talk to you they would walk right up and start a conversation right there on the beach, as if you were standing at the bus stop one the street. The first time it happened it was a little jarring but we got over it.
