Is it rude to discontinue being friendly to someone once they find out you are a smoker?
I just started a new job 2 months ago and I met these 2 women who work for a different company but in the same building. I work out everyday at lunch and this is where we met.
We started chatting a lot around the gym and would often hang out In The Sauna after our workout but we never hung out outside work.
Last week they walked by me as I was standing outside smoking a cigarette and we exchanged pleasantries. Ever since then, they have been giving me the cold shoulder in the gym.
I believe it is because they do not like smokers but this seems a little shallow to me. I may be a smoker but that does not make me a less nice person, I kind of feel offended by it.
I'd give thumbs up but I'm only on Level 1.

Sure, second hand smoke is dangerous, you're not asking them to join you for a smoke. You're not a different person because you smoke.
I would talk to them. Try to hang out with them at the gym, and if they continue to give them the cold shoulder you can talk to them about it, or move on.
Some people are just ignorant. So long as you're not imposing on the healthy lungs of non-smokers, then they should get over themselves. I've had this response. I'm a smoker and some people are just disgusted by it. I don't care, it's my choice and I acknowledge the risks. I'm considerate (toss my butts, don't smoke in crowded areas, don't smoke in enclosed spaces). People are just arrogant. I also drive an SUV (can't afford a hybrid...)...so I'm not overly popular.
To the poster above me: sure there's the smoker bond thing. However, there's so many haters so we have to stick together. I've been spat on for smoking! Seriously, some non-smokers are so up on their own health. We get it, you don't like second hand smoke.
